Goals and tasks of the gW/N

After the establishment of the Center for Global Change and Sustainability by Prof. Helga Kromp-Kolb in June 2010, we officially started work with a team of 8 employees. Today we are well over 20 people who work with heart, joy and commitment on sustainable development.

Our goals are:

  1. Promote sustainability at the BOKU and beyond through innovative impulses and implementation of relevant projects and initiatives - and thus make a contribution to the transformation of society towards sustainability.
  2. Promote networking, exchange and cooperation in the areas of climate, global change and sustainability - both internally (between BOKU institutes and departments) and externally (at local, national and international level)
  3. Creating awareness and sensitization for the topics of climate, global change and sustainability - at the BOKU and beyond
  4. As a contact and service point, we support sustainable projects, initiatives and people - with know-how, contacts, visibility and foresight

Our tasks include:

  • Innovative impulses: We develop innovative impulses to promote the social responsibility of universities and take active steps to promote sustainability at the BOKU and beyond.
  • Communication: By participating in courses and through our research and publicity projects, we raise awareness of sustainability issues inside and outside the BOKU.
  • Coordination & Cooperation: In selected projects and initiatives, we take on a networking, coordinative role and promote exchange, dialogue and cooperation between various actors from a wide variety of areas inside and outside the BOKU.
  • Service & Advice: As a competent contact, we advise various BOKU institutions (Rectorate) as well as stakeholders from society (politics, media, civil society, companies) on questions and concerns in the area of global change and sustainability.
