Successful product innovation

Two teams from BOKU Institute of Food Technology were awarded with the Egger-Radlberger Product Innovation Award 2016. Silvia Murgueitio-Purschke (B.Sc.), Benedict Purschke (PhD student), and Wolfgang Schmidtgrabmer (M.Sc.) convinced the Jury with their innovative product proposals.

The Egger-Radlberger Product Innovation Award aimed to foster the development of innovative ideas in the field of beverages (non-alcoholic and alcoholic) as well as new packaging solutions for beverages. In its first edition in 2016, around 30 pre-selected submissions were evaluated by an internal jury of the company. The best ideas in terms of innovative potential and feasibility were awarded with a cash price.

Seven teams from BOKU Food Science and Technology took part with innovative ideas such as a beer-based protein drink, a tea-based soft drink, a cereal mash-based infusion, and novel beer variants and packaging concepts. BOKU students proved once more their know-how in the field of food science and technology and their innovative way of thinking: Among the awarded winners, two product concepts developed by students from the Institute of Food Technology were honoured.

Silvia Murgueitio-Purschke and Benedict Purschke have been awarded with a price money of 1000 € for the development of a natural plant based energy drink. Wolfgang Schmidtgrabmer won 1500 € for the design of an innovative packaging tool for beer cans. The award ceremony was held on the 6th of October at the head quarter of the Egger-Radlberger group in Unterradlberg/Austria.
