Von insgesamt 136 Postern wurde der Beitrag von Dr. Keita Sakakibara "Synthesis and properties of cellulose derivatives with pi-conjugated molecules" vom Department für Chemie, Abteilung Chemie nachwachsender Rohstoffe, im Rahmen der International Cellulose Conference (ICC2012) in Sapporo (Japan) zum Gewinner gekürt. Das Gewinner-Poster Mehr Informationen auf Englisch: The poster presentation "Synthesis and properties of cellulose derivatives with pi-conjugated molecules" by Dr. Keita Sakakibara and Univ.Prof. Dr. Thomas Rosenau was acknowledged with the 1st Poster Award of the 3rd International Cellulose Conference (ICC2012) in Sapporo, Japan, Finland. Selected by 15 members of an international scientific committee, the poster was ranked first among 136 contributions. The ICC conferences, held only every 5 years, is the most renowned meeting of scientists in the field of cellulose science. Dr. Keita Sakakibara studied chemistry at Kyoto University, Division of Forestry and Biomaterial Sciences, before joining the BOKU group for a postdoctoral stay as Research Fellow of the Japanese Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS). His work at BOKU was concerned with fundamental studies about the use of celluloses as molecular scaffolds to arrange pi-conjugated molecules, such as porphyrins, in a stacked geometry, in a way that significant photoelectric activities are reached while properties typical of cellulosics are maintained. In other words, the compounds combine the properties of organic solar cells with the favorable material characteristics of cellulosic matrices. In 2012, Dr. Sakakibara took up a tenure track position at the Department of Chemistry, Kyoto University.
