Get to know international campus life, meet new people from all over the world, and qualify for a future career in cross-cultural work environments. Our living and working environment is affected by globalization and internationalization. Hence, the ability to effectively communicate and deal with others in intercultural settings became a necessity. The Summer Academy on Intercultural Experience is organized since 2010 by InterCultur gGmbH (subsidiary of AFS Germany) and Karlshochschule International University. It brings together young people from all over the world to work together on the following questions:
- What are major themes in intercultural cooperation and communication?
- How have international networks changed?
- What kinds of conflicts arise and how can we deal with them?
- How do society and organizations react to intercultural challenges in a world of growing complexity and diversity?
- How can we integrate sustainable solutions in diverse societies?
The Summer Academy is characterized by its innovative combination of university lectures and practical workshops. The Academy is being held in English and is open to anyone aged 18–35 with a demonstrable interest in intercultural encounters, especially undergraduate students and young professionals. Summer School at the University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy, from September 3 to 7 – application deadline: 31 May
Bio-based economy (Bioeconomy) aims at reducing the dependence from fossil fuels and finite materials without overexploiting natural resources. According to the definition of the European Commission “Bioeconomy encompasses those parts of economy that use renewable biological resources from land and sea to produce food, biomaterials, bioenergy and bioproducts”. Behind bioeconomy there is much science related to industrial biotechnology and a deep change in Economics and Politics, as well as societal issues. Priority will be given to students participants holding a Master degree, but application by master students is encouraged and will be evaluated on the basis of the applicant motivation and background. Tuition fee: 300 € for academic participants, 600 € for industrial participants. Rates include participation to lectures, study material, coffee break and field trip. Rates do not include traveling and accommodation expenses.
Greifswald Summer School from August 6 to October 14 – application deadline: 31 May
This year the Summer School at the University of Greifswald will be held from the 6th August to 14th October (2, 4, 6 or 8 weeks). Students and young professionals as well as researchers are more than welcome to join. This summer course is combining German language classes at several different levels with an extensive programme of workshops, cultural events and excursions. Plant Health and Quality Summer School from July 2 to 18 in Angers, France – application deadline: 16 April
The University of Angers (France) and its partners organise the 4th edition of the Summer School PLANT HEALTH AND QUALITY from 2nd to 18th July 2018. Angers is a world center for research in plant sciences with national research centers in horticulture and several research units and companies in the related fields.
The PLANT HEALTH AND QUALITY Summer School is open in priority to Master students in the fields of agriculture, plant science and biological science. Bachelor or first year PhD students may also apply. The lectures, workshops, projects and visits are all interactive and are all in English. 6 European Credits Transfer System will be delivered at the end of the program.

UEF Summer School, Finland, from August 13 to 24 – application deadline: 15 June
The application for the UEF (University of Eastern Finland) Summer School from 13 to 24 August runs until 15 June (the applications are handled continuously). The Summer School will be more than just taking a course: it is an excellent opportunity to experience an innovative and international learning environment while creating new networks with your fellow students - and let's not forget about the opportunity to enjoy typical Finnish summer activities in beautiful lakeside surroundings. The course fee is 500 euros, and a discount of 20 % for the participants from partner universities (=BOKU) is granted.

Summer Schools 2018 at the Osnabrück University from July 6 to 29 – application deadline: 31 March
Now in their 9th year, Osnabrück University’s Summer Schools will take place from July 6th to 29th, 2018 and combine challenging academic programs, a variety of cultural activities, introductory German lessons as well as an exciting buddy program. Students are invited to apply for any of the following programs until March 31st, 2018:
• Intercultural Competencies (INCO), Institute of Psychology
• Biomembranes and Cellular Microcompartments (BCMC), School of Biology/Chemistry
• German Tax Law and Treaty Policy (TLTP), School of Law
Except for personal living expenses and travel costs, all essentials (such as accommodation, tuition, etc.) are included in the program fee of 1,500 EUR. Participants from partner universities will receive a discount of 250 EUR. Depending on the program, a number of different scholarships may be available to students as well.
Linköping University Summer Academy 2018 in July 2018, Sweden – application deadline: 6 March
The programme will give international students an opportunity to study in Linköping for four weeks, choose from a number of high-quality courses and gain cultural insights together with other students from international partner universities. All courses are at bachelor's level, credit bearing (7.5 ECTS), will be taught in English and are full-time. For students from LiU's partner universities the LiU Summer Academy tuition is free. Students who have completed 1 year full-time studies (successfully passed 60 ECTS credits or equivalent upon application) and have a good command of English as stated in our agreement are eligible to all courses. BOKU as partner university can nominate a maximum of 5 students. The admission application deadline is March 6, 2018 (midnight CET).
Economics and Policy Summer School at USAMV Bucharest, Romania, from September 17 to 21 – application deadline: 31 May
The University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest and its partners within the ENHANCE project are honoured to inform that the registrations for the third USAMV BUCHAREST AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS AND POLICY SUMMER SCHOOL have started. The third ENHANCE Summer School is entitled “Institutional Economics and Agricultural Development” and will take place at USAMV Bucharest from 17-21 September 2018. The lecturers will come from Germany, from IAMO (Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies) and aim to introduce the various concepts of defining and conceptualizing economic institutions, focusing especially on institutions of natural resource use, agricultural production and agricultural markets. Theoretical and empirical analyses of institutions’ role in land use decisions, access to agricultural inputs, transactions, and cooperation will be presented and jointly critically discussed. Finally, various conceptual approaches to the theory of institutional change will be introduced. The five days of intensive courses entail theoretical and practical activities, group work and presentations, cultural and social visit, field trips, providing learning and networking opportunities for course participants and lecturers. The official language of the course is English.

3rd International Summer School of Medical Law and Bioethics from July 5 to 11 – application deadline: 30 June
The Laboratory for the Research of Medical Law and Bioethics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) announces, in cooperation with ELSA Thessaloniki, the 3rd International Summer School of Medical Law and Bioethics on "Assisted Reproduction and Alternative Family Forms".
The Summer School will be conducted in English, by faculty members and doctoral students from AUTh and from other universities in Greece and abroad, as well as by specialised jurists and doctors.
The Summer School will take place between the 5th and the 11th of July 2018 in Thessaloniki. The lectures will be held in Conference rooms of Holiday INN (8 Monastiriou Str.). The tuition fees amount to EUR 100 for students of all levels and EUR 150 for jurists and health professionals for entries up to May 30st, 2018 and to EUR 130 and EUR 180 respectively for entries up to June 30th, 2018 (deadline). Linnaeus Summer Academy from July 16 to August 17 in Kalmar, Sweden – application deadline: 15 February
The LNU Summer Academy is held from July 16th to August 17th, 2018, at the Campus in Kalmar.
A variety of courses within a broad field are on offer, e.g. "Environmental Technology for Sustainable Development" as well as the general courses "English for academic studies", "Beginner’s Swedish, part 1 " and "Writing a scientific essay – genre and methods. A preparation for higher education".
LNU Summer Academy is open for all and can be done by itself. Still, it might be of particular interest for students who are coming for a half or full year in autumn/spring 2018/19. Those students will get a softer introduction to Sweden, a more relaxed start and will meet other students from different disciplines. And a Swedish summer (though this does not guarantee warm temperatures).

The disciplines included in this summer course, i.e. Physical Geography, Remote Sensing and Information and Territorial Planning, offer a set of tools and technologies very valuable for monitoring, at multiple scales and with great precision, the dynamics of what happens in our "Digital Earth".

International Bachelor Summer School for Climate Change Research from 6 to 17 August at the University of Bern, Switzerland - registration open
The International Bachelor Summer School for Climate Change Research invites Bachelor students (semester 4 to 6) from different disciplines to participate in the course which is being held under the umbrella of Climate Change Research. The Summer School focuses on the following topics:
- physical climate system
- climate economics and governance
- knowledge transfer
It comprises keynote lectures that are held by high-profile scientists; workshops to train and sharpen students’ disciplinary competence; and a simulation exercise of a multilateral climate conference that will be run by the students themselves. A field trip to the high altitude research station Jungfraujoch (3500 m a.s.l.) will provide insights into latest measurement technologies, as well as to the impacts of climate change. Students will have the opportunity to experience one of Switzerland’s most spectacular places: the Aletsch – the largest Alpine Glacier.
