When does tuition have to be paid?

When calculating the number of tuition-free semesters for registered students (except third-country nationals who are holders of a residence permit for students), two additional semesters are added to the prescribed duration of each curriculum.  Tuition must be paid at the end of the second additional semester.

Please note: ÖH fees (membership to the Austrian National Union of Students) must be paid by all students.

(1) The prescribed duration of study and the number of additional semesters are calculated as follows: 1. For Bachelor's programmes worth a total of 180 ECTS credits: prescribed duration six semesters, plus two additional semesters; 2. For individualized Bachelor's programmes: prescribed duration six semesters, plus two additional semesters; 3. For Master's programmes worth a total of 120 ECTS credits: prescribed duration four semesters, plus two additional semesters; 4. For individualized Master's programmes: prescribed duration four semesters, plus two additional semesters; 5. For two-year doctoral programmes: prescribed duration of four semesters, plus two additional semesters; 6. For three-year doctoral programmes: prescribed duration six semesters, plus two additional semesters; 7. For three-year PhD programmes: prescribed duration six semesters, plus two additional semesters.

(2) The number of semesters completed is indicated by the respective programme code (pursuant to § 5 [4] of the University Studies Evidence Act [Universitäts-Studienevidenzverordnung, UniStEV],  Federal Law Gazette II no. 288/2004 as amended;  Federal Law Gazette II no. 161/2011 as amended) assigned to the programme curriculum. Semesters completed while enrolled in one programme are included in the semester calculation of any new programme enrolled. Semesters studied under one curriculum are added together.

(3) Semesters spent on leave of absence are not counted as hitherto completed semesters.
