For 12.5 years, the multi-disciplinary doctoral study program BioToP (Biomolecular Technology of Proteins) located at BOKU, Vienna, has trained PhD students in the research areas protein engineering, biosynthesis, expression systems and cell factories, and bioinformatics and molecular modelling. As “Doktoratskolleg-plus” this structured doctoral education was generously supported over three funding periods by the Austrian Science Fund FWF and by BOKU. During this time, more then 30 highly qualified scientists involved in BioToP educated and supported over 150 PhD students from all over the world in their research. Actively encouraging the students to participate in renowned conferences and financially supporting research stays abroad allowed the BioToP students to connect with international experts, and established BioToP as excellent doctoral program in the field of protein biotechnology.

On June 19 and 20, 2023, the success of 12.5 years of BioToP will be celebrated with a 2-days conference at BOKU Vienna (Campus Muthgasse). The conference is free for everyone. Talks from top-notch invited speakers, BioToP alumni as well as current students of the program, and poster sessions provide insight into state-of the-art protein research at universities and in industry. A gala dinner will allow all participants to gather and connect in a relaxed atmosphere. More information and the registration can be found at biotop2023.boku.ac.at. Scientific contributions in the form of talks and posters are highly welcome and can be submitted until May 22, 2023. The best poster will be awarded with an attractive prize.
