Public lecture of BOKU‘s Fulbright Chair - Prof. Elowyn Yager: „Rivers, rocks, fish and floods" - 20.3.2018 - Celebrating 10 years of co-operation BOKU-Fulbright Commission

Rivers provide humans drinking water, food sources, and recreational activities, but also create floodingand erosional hazards. In this presentation, we will explore some of the physical processes that occur in rivers from short (turbulence) to long (mountain erosion) timescales. On this journey through time, we will also examine how ecological (e.g. fish spawning) and human activities impact rivers.

Dr. Elowyn Yager received degrees in Geology from the State University of New York at Buffalo and the University of California at Berkeley. She is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and the Center for Ecohydraulics Research at the University of Idaho, USA. Her research focuses on understanding and predicting river and hillslope processes, which can be used to restore rivers, decrease floodingrisks, and improve habitat for aquatic organisms.

The lecture is followed by a buffet.
