Making Nano "Safer by Design"

Nanotechnology bears the potential of enriching and enhancing society. Possible applications range from so called “intelligent materials” used for stain-resisting medical products to “nano socks” that prevent unpleasant smell. However, ethical and legal issues are rising that call for appropriate safeguards.

The concept of "Safer by Design" aims to evaluate the associated risks at an early stage, long before these products conquer the market. Since the business applications are wide-ranging major parts of the population may be affected. Thusly, an interdisciplinary approach is needed in order to fully understand the associated benefits and risks. The Institute of Law at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, in cooperation with the University of Vienna, is hosting this workshop to address these issues and to propose possible solutions.    For further information please see "Making Nano "Safer by Design" Registration is mandatory due to the limited number of places.
