Proceedings of the Conference on

Analytic and Elementary Number Theory

A Satellite Conference of the European Congress on Mathematics 96

Universität Wien and Universität für Bodenkultur, Vienna, July 18 - 20, 1996

In Honour of Professor Edmund Hlawka's 80th Birthday.

Preface

These are the proceedings of an international conference on Analytic and Elementary Number Theory which took place from July 18 through 20, 1996, at the Mathematics Departments of the Universität für Bodenkultur and the Universität Wien, as an official Satellite Conference of the European Congress on Mathematics in Budapest. The meeting was dedicated to the honour of the 80th birthday of Professor Edmund Hlawka, which he celebrated on November 5, 1996.
This volume includes the congratulation address of Wolfgang Schwarz (Frankfurt) "On the number theoretic work of Edmund Hlawka" as well as invited articles of the following plenary speakers: Peter Bundschuh (Köln), Martin Huxley (Cardiff), Ekkehard Krätzel (Vienna), Wladislaw Narkiewicz (Wroclaw) [jointly written with Franz Halter-Koch (Graz)], and Wolfgang Schmidt (Boulder). Furthermore, several well-selected and thoroughly refereed contributed papers of some of the altogether about 80 participants of the conference have been included. The contents cover a large variety of themes from contemporary Analytic and Elementary Number Theory.

W.G. Nowak (Universität für Bodenkultur), J. Schoißengeier (Universität Wien)
