Based on the lecture Introduction into Ethnobotany (933.337) in this seminar the application of ethnobotany in various fields (medicine, food, …) is investigated through field trips and by reviewing and discussing relevant scientific literature. During several field trips to Vienna based plant related manufacturing businesses you will explore the use of various plants, their specific uses and their taste.

You will experience and explore how plant knowledge is applied. Additionally you will receive training in various ethnobotanical methods (field diary, participant observation, etc.) and test the methods learned. You will actively discuss current ethnobotanical research with your colleagues. You will gain experience in team work, improve your ability to analyse and interpret scientific case-studies and develop your discussion, presentation and writing skills.
