Green.Building.Solutions. 2018

This program specializes in providing first-hand ecological knowledge and engineering expertise bundled in a three-week program in the capital of energy-efficient and green building: Vienna.

The UNESCO-awarded international program is geared towards students primarily at the graduate level who study architecture and engineering sciences, however, anyone with a background in a built environment-related field is welcome. There are also students and professionals from facility management, urban planning, landscape architecture and policy development.

2017 was the seventh successful year of the GBS with 46 students from 30 countries.

The Summer University is co-organized by a consortium of 12 universities: Vienna University of Technology, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, Danube University Krems, University of Vienna, FH Campus Wien, FH Wien, Modul University, University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien, Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe, University of Tokyo and Waterford Institute of Technology (Ireland).

Upon completion of 175 hours of course work, students receive 7 ECTS-credits.

The program is split into two weeks of lectures, workshops, exercises, and excursions, with the third week dedicated to designing a group project incorporating the knowledge gained during the first two weeks. The main topics of the 3-week program are sustainability in building and urban planning, principles of passive house design, and renewable energies and business concepts. Tuition costs include accommodation in a passive house student dormitory, local transit, and admission to extra-curricular activities such as a tour of the Schönbrunn Castle, a film night and a Viennese waltzing lesson.
