The National Agricultural Research Foundation (N.AG.RE.F)

is the main entity of conducting agricultural and forestry related research and technology in Greece. It participates actively in the formation of the Ministry's of Agriculture policy making on research and technology development and delegates participate in the E.U. Committees, planning and implementing the community's policy making on RTD. The Foundation's aim is to produce innovative knowledge and technology promoting thus Greece's needs in applied research. It comprises 65 Institutes and Agricultural Research Stations across all over Greece including 330 researchers and other 1200 personnel.
The Forest Research Institute (FRI) is a research institute within the National Agricultural Research Foundation (NAGREF) of Greece. It employs 70 staff members including 35 scientists. FRI is responsible for research within forests and to support and advise the Greek Ministry of Agriculture. It covers all aspects of the forest sector including forest management, forest soils and protection. FRI has more than 35 years of experience in forest research and management. It is involved in several national and international, mainly EU funded projects related to forest management and ecology (FOREST, AIR, CLIMATE AND ENVIRONMENT, AIR, COST, NATO SfS etc.)
The proposed project is fully consistent with the research objectives of the Institute and clearly addresses an important aspect within forest research in Greece. Coppice forests are managed and their sustainability is of great importance. There are 48% coppice forests in Greece and 17% coppice with Standards.
