Livestream Lecture by Professor Federico Ferrini, Director at European Gravitational Observatory – EGO at the University of Belgrade: “From Einstein's prediction to Gravitational Waves observation: a new window on the Universe”, 13.4.2016

The University of Belgrade cordially invites international students and academics to attend the Livestream Lecture at the University of Belgrade: “From Einstein's prediction to Gravitational Waves observation: a new window on the Universe”

The University of Belgrade is proud to host a lecture by Professor Federico Ferrini, Director at European Gravitational Observatory – EGO. Professor Ferrini will give lecture on recent groundbreaking discovery of gravitational waves, one of the most important finds of the 21st century.

The lecture will take place on Wednesday, April 13th, 2016, at 13h.

A livestream of the lecture will be available here!
Gravitational waves are distortions in space-time. In mathematics they are described as wave solution of Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. One of the ways they are created is when two black holes collide. What’s interesting is that Albert Einstein predicted the existence of gravitational waves back in 1916 within his theory of relativity. A century later, on February 11, 2016, gravitational waves were detected for the first time ever, by scientists at LIGO Scientific Collaboration and Virgo Collaboration.

Guest of the University of Belgrade, Dr. Federico Ferrini, is professor of astrophysics at the University of Pisa. He authored more than 200 scientific papers. From December 2002 till December 2010 he served as a Scientific Attaché to the Permanent Mission of Italy in Geneva, charged to represent Italy at CERN, Environmental Organizations in Geneva, WMO and ITU.

Professor Ferrini will give lecture in English language.

Everyone who is interested may follow it here live on April 13th at 13h!
