Cold and grey autumn days are spent best inside - with tea, coffee, a book and/or good company. Here you will find a small selection of our (the international office team) favourite coffee places where you can relax in a good atmosphere, watch the people around you and sip a delicious Melange (Viennese coffee, similar to a cappuccino). Traditional Kaffeehäuser (they have delicous deserts too): - Café Central (1st district): Might seem touristy, but really is a favourite Café for Viennese people as well. Beautiful architecture, a little pricey but definitely worth a visit! - Café Prückel (1st district): Definitely one of the most mentioned ones too - and also one of my favourites! 60s-atmosphere, slightly grumpy waiters, sometimes live piano music - exactly how it should be! - Café Bräunerhof (1st district): Opinions are divergent at this one - some like it for its cosiness and live-music, some don't. Well, I guess, just try! - Café Sperl (6st district): Beautiful, old style, definitely Kaffehaus-flair and in a good location close to the market "Naschmarkt". My personal favourite in this category. Not too cheap either, but still the one that was most mentioned when I asked around here in the office! - Café Westend (7th district): Near to Westbahnhof, with the worn-down atmosphere that Kaffeehäuser outside the first district should and need to have. A little dusty, very big, and with lots of (international) newspapers! - Café Eiles (8th district): Is also a tipical Viennese coffee place close to the city hall which I really like. Now they've renovated it - I hope that it didn't loose its a bit shabby, Viennese atmopshere! Let me know what you think! - Some more top-picks in this category: Café Landtmann (1st district) (very fancy, but very Viennese too); Café Demel (1st district) (go there for a real imperial atmosphere and probably some of the very best cakes in town!); Café Sacher (1st district) ; Café Griensteindl (1st district) (apparently one of the top-picks for journalists, politicians and the like); the Café at Kahlenberg (19th district) (nice view included); the Café of Hotel Méridien (1st district) (nice view included too); Café Schopenhauer (18th district); Café Korb (1st district) , Café Hummel (8th district) More pub-like Cafés (equally traditional, but a different style: rather take a beer than a coffee): - Café Alt-Wien (1st district): My personal favourite: smoky, worn-down, dark and cosy. - "Wratschko" (7th district): The describe from above describes it very well, plus real good food. - Café Bendl (8th district): A must see after a long night out! Go there after Clubbing for a last drink and let me know what you think about it. ;) Hip, new, non-traditional picks: - Phil (7th district): nice music, good food, delicious coffee - and a bookstore at the same time! You can buy single cigarettes there - great for occasional smokers. - Café Europa (7th district): definitely a real "institution" in the 6th district. Every Viennese student knows this place! They serve great food and drinks, go there during the day or at night! On weekends they open their club, good for an uplanned evening/ night. - Café Espresso (7th district): hip and artistic, with music on the weekends - Ulrich (7th district): from delicious breakfast to great cocktails: you get it all here! - Café "people on caffeine" (8th district): please try this one and tell me about it too. Suggested by a colleague, but I haven't been there yet. Plus aparrently it is IN a church! - Café der Provinz (8th district): This is actually my favorite Café in this category. It has a really chilled atmophere, nice furniture and you can stay there for hours. The café as well as their staff are (mainly) french. They also have lunch menus and a Sunday's brunch. It is located next to "Piaristenplatz", definitely check out the square! - Weltcafé (9th district): well-known to every student, delicious breakfast, soups and coffee If you have other tips, findings and suggestions: Please let me know! :) I'm a big fan of exploring the cafés, bars and other cosy places in Vienna!
Die grauen Herbsttage sind perfekt für Tee, Kaffee, ein Buch und/oder gute Gesellschaft in warmer, gemütlicher Atmosphäre. Und genau dafür sind Wiener Kaffeehäuser wie geschaffen! Hier findet ihr eine Sammlung der Vorschläge von mir und meinen KollegInnen am ZIB - also nichts wie los und ausprobieren! :) Die deutschen Beschreibungen sind leider etwas kürzer ausgefallen - das tut mir leid, aber am besten ist sowieso, ihr probiert alle selbst mal durch! ;) Traditionalle Kaffeehäuser (für Kaffee und Kuchen): - Café Prückel (1. - Café Bendl (8. Bezirk): Unbedingt hingehen, am besten nach dem Fortgehen!
Hippe, neue, nicht-traditionelle Cafés: - Phil (6. Bezirk): tolles Ambiente! Es wirkt wie eine Art Buch-Kaffeehaus mit toller Musik, gutem Kaffee und Frühstück. Es eignet sich also auch mal gut dort etwas für die Uni zu machen. Aber auch am Abend kann man gut etwas trinken gehen. Und: Es gibt dort einzelne Zigarette zu kaufen. ;) - Café Europa (7. Bezirk): So gut wie alle Studierenden in Wien kennen das Café Europa! Sowohl untertags als auch am Abend oder Nachts, es hat gefühlt immer offen und man hat dort immer gute Abende.
- Café Espresso (7. Bezirk): einfach nur toll! Hip, künstlerisch und oft auch ein Dj oder Live Musik.
- Das Ulrich (7. Bezirk): von großartigem Frühstück bis Cocktails am Abend, hier gibt's alles. - Café der Provinz (8. Bezirk): mein Lieblingskaffeehaus gleich beim Piaristenplatz (unbedingt anschauen!)! Eine sehr nette, gemütliche Atmosphäre, gutes Essen und toller Kaffee; Sonntags gibt es einen Brunch. - Café "people on caffeine" (8. Bezirk): in einer alten Kirche, nahe der Hauptuni - Weltcafé (9.
