Vienna is THE place to go for classical music and theater. What most people don't know: there are really cheap ways of hearing the Vienna Philharmonics play, going to the Opera or the Theater. Here are some tipps!!

------------

Most theaters and music venues in Vienna offer either cheap tickets for standing places or last-minute tickets for students where you get whichever places are left over – mostly really good ones! Here are the most important venues (careful, many reduced prices only apply to people younger than 26):

- State Opera House (Staatsoper): Certainly one of the most famous opera houses in Europe. They offer both standing tickets (for 3.50-4€) as well as last-minute tickets for students. Standing tickets: available 80 minutes before the start of the play, for famous operas you might have to queue well before that. The office for standing tickets is on the left side of the building. Bring a scarf or similar to reserve your place in the standing area! Attention, only 1 ticket per person is sold. Last-minute tickets: 7-11€, can be purchased 30 minutes before the start of the play at the evening box-office (“Abendkassa”)

- Musikverein: The best concert hall in Vienna – and really, really beautiful! No special student tickets but cheap standing room tickets: Cost around 5€ and can be bought in advance or right before the concert

- Burgtheater: The biggest Theater in Vienna, just opposite the town hall. They offer standing tickets, reduced prices for normal tickets and last-minute tickets for 8€ for students. Last-minute tickets: can be purchased 30 minutes before the start of the play. Standing places: Approximately 2.50€, can be bought in advance or at the evening box office

- Volksoper, Konzerthaus, Volkstheater, etc.: Further information especially for students can be found here in German and English. - You are under 26 and staying for the wohle year? Have a look into the Jeunesse "Last Minute Boarding Pass"!

- Burgtheater: Das größte Theater in Wien, gleich gegenüber vom Rathaus.
