Department of Sustainable Agricultural Systems

The following internships are offered by the Institute of Agricultural Engineering for the summer semester 2018.

Internship position in the biogas group

Internship position in the biogas group of the Institute of Agricultural Engineering offers an internship position in its biogas laboratory, which is located in Tulln an der Donau (Lower Austria). The internship will mainly consist of supporting the laboratory technician as well as the PhD students in their daily tasks in the laboratory.

Activities include the performance of the following biomass analysis: dry matter, volatile solids, cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin and proteins.

Determination of biomethane potential tests (BMP) from agro-municipal organic residues (e.g. straw): preparation of the setup (biomass, inoculum, fermenters and eudiometers), reading the produced biogas, determination of the methane content, entering the recorded data in our database and interpretation of the results.

Performance of a literature review that could be used for writing a scientific publication.

Requirements:
-Background in agricult. sciences, chemistry or biotechnology
- Students must have completed at least the fifth semester of their studies
- Ability to work independently and to take responsibilities
- Interest in biogas and ability to work in a group
- Accuracy, reliability, eager to learn

Expected length:
The desired length of the internship would be 5-6 months.

Payment:
The Institute of Agricultural Engineering cannot provide any salary for the performance of the internship. In addition, no expenses for accommodation, travel, food or health insurance can be covered.
