Td Summer School on transdisciplinary research 15 scholarships for participants from the global south 15 scholarships for participants from the global south
The Td summer school offers a 5-day intensive training (Td Training Module) on transdisciplinary research that will prepare researchers and practitioners for transformative research on societal challenges at the science | society interface in September 2018. Participants will gain input on theoretical and methodological foundations as well as experience in designing and implementing transdisciplinary research processes. This year a particular focus is on interculturality to foster exchange between researchers and practitioners from different world regions and to mutually learn from different transdisciplinary research traditions.
15 scholarships for participants from the global south:
To foster intercultural exchange and explore the potential of transdisciplinary research in different cultural contexts and world regions, 15 scholarships are offered for participants with low economic
resources from the global south. Scholarships include participation fee, accommodation and contributions to travel costs (up to 750 Euros). Researcher, post-graduate students with research experiences and practitioners (e.g. civil society organizations; administrative bodies; or SMEs) from the Global South can apply for this scholarship. Particularly people from Africa, Asia and Latin America are encouraged to apply.

2018 Summer School Baja, Hungary
The need for climate and flood risk resiliency has induced changes in water policies in Europe and thus new challenges in water resources management are arising. Integrated approach and basin-scale, cross-border harmonized water management policies must prevail, and in order to achieve the basin-wide goals, attitudes towards floods and droughts have to be changed.
The Summer school consists of classroom lectures, field measurements and processing of measurement results, including theory and practice of catchment hydrology processes from small to large scale, the investigation of runoff from the watershed. Participants will have hands-on field experience in surveying river morphology and discharge as well.

Kursk State Agricultural Academy and Belgorod State Agricultural University invite to participate at the summer school programme "AGRISUMMER IN BLACK SOIL REGIONS OF RUSSIA" jointly organized by two educational institutions of higher professional training in Kursk and Belgorod regions.

This year’s topic of the ELLS Case study competition is “Transition Towns - Urban Food Production and Rapid Urban Development”. The task for the students is to analyze the circumstances, dynamics and challenges of current food production in Vienna. The winner team will be awarded with a price of 1000 EUR.
During the CSC students will get support from lecturers from three ELLS Universities (BOKU, UHOH, and WULS) and get in touch with different stakeholders related to the case, such as farmers, real estate developers, local NGOs and representatives of respective city administration.

Humboldt reloaded Summer School 2018
This course will focus on "Is health nature or nurture? Bridging WHO recommendations and evidence based research in alcoholism, depression and nutrition." The University of Hohenheim will offer a summer school on Health Sciences specifically designed for undergraduate students, but it is also open for MSc students.
The aim is to provide bachelor students from different scientific backgrounds (natural, agricultural, economic, social and political) an interdisciplinary insight of health. Leading experts from various disciplines and WHO experts discuss how health can be influenced by regulations and recommendations and to what extent are we as humans either more or less susceptible to certain diseases due to our own genetic profile.

The "Modern China Studies" Summer School takes place at two prestigious Chinese universities, namely at the Peking University and at the Fudan University in Shanghai. There are different teaching modules held in English. The "Modern China Studies for Scientists and Economists" Summer School takes place at the Fudan University in Shanghai and at the Peking University in China. There are different teaching modules held in English. Lectures involve topics such as economics, culture, politics, the legal system and cross-cultural management in China. The students also have the opportunity to meet Austrian bank representatives and lCEOs working in China. The Summer School participants also pay a visit to joint-venture companies in Beijing and Shanghai.
For the participants, studying at Austrian universities and universities of applied sciences, which are members of the Eurasia-Pacific Uninet, there is a possibility of being granted for a scholarship by the Eurasia-Pacific Uninet amounting to approx. € 500. This years topic of the ELLS Case study competition is “Transition Towns - Urban Food Production and Rapid Urban Development”. This year’s CSC focuses on urban agriculture and food production in the context of rapid urban development. The task for the students is to analyze the circumstances, dynamics and challenges of current food production in Vienna. The winner team will be awarded with a price of 1000 EUR.
The case-study will be based on an agricultural site within the city of Vienna that has been used, till very recently, for agricultural production. Currently and in the context of rapid urban development that goes along with the increasing need for housing and other urban facilities, the place can’t be used for agricultural production anymore. Its use needs to be re-thought and re-invented so that it fits with the actual situation and city of Vienna urban development plans.
During the CSC students will get support from lecturers from three ELLS Universities (BOKU, UHOH, WULS) and get in touch with different stakeholders related to the case, such as farmers, real estate developers, local NGOs and representatives of respective city administration. Summer School at the University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy, from September 3 to 7 – application deadline: 31 May
Bio-based economy (Bioeconomy) aims at reducing the dependence from fossil fuels and finite materials without overexploiting natural resources. According to the definition of the European Commission “Bioeconomy encompasses those parts of economy that use renewable biological resources from land and sea to produce food, biomaterials, bioenergy and bioproducts”. Behind bioeconomy there is much science related to industrial biotechnology and a deep change in Economics and Politics, as well as societal issues. Priority will be given to students participants holding a Master degree, but application by master students is encouraged and will be evaluated on the basis of the applicant motivation and background. Tuition fee: 300 € for academic participants, 600 € for industrial participants. Rates include participation to lectures, study material, coffee break and field trip. Rates do not include traveling and accommodation expenses.
Greifswald Summer School from August 6 to October 14 – application deadline: 31 May
This year the Summer School at the University of Greifswald will be held from the 6th August to 14th October (2, 4, 6 or 8 weeks). Students and young professionals as well as researchers are more than welcome to join. The University of Angers (France) and its partners organise the 4th edition of the Summer School PLANT HEALTH AND QUALITY from 2nd to 18th July 2018. Angers is a world center for research in plant sciences with national research centers in horticulture and several research units and companies in the related fields.
The PLANT HEALTH AND QUALITY Summer School is open in priority to Master students in the fields of agriculture, plant science and biological science. Bachelor or first year PhD students may also apply. Linköping University Summer Academy 2018 in July 2018, Sweden – application deadline: 6 March
The programme will give international students an opportunity to study in Linköping for four weeks, choose from a number of high-quality courses and gain cultural insights together with other students from international partner universities. All courses are at bachelor's level, credit bearing (7.5 ECTS), will be taught in English and are full-time. For students from LiU's partner universities the LiU Summer Academy tuition is free. Students who have completed 1 year full-time studies (successfully passed 60 ECTS credits or equivalent upon application) and have a good command of English as stated in our agreement are eligible to all courses. BOKU as partner university can nominate a maximum of 5 students. The admission application deadline is March 6, 2018 (midnight CET).

The third ENHANCE Summer School is entitled “Institutional Economics and Agricultural Development” and will take place at USAMV Bucharest from 17-21 September 2018. The lecturers will come from Germany, from IAMO (Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies) and aim to introduce the various concepts of defining and conceptualizing economic institutions, focusing especially on institutions of natural resource use, agricultural production and agricultural markets. Theoretical and empirical analyses of institutions’ role in land use decisions, access to agricultural inputs, transactions, and cooperation will be presented and jointly critically discussed. Finally, various conceptual approaches to the theory of institutional change will be introduced. The five days of intensive courses entail theoretical and practical activities, group work and presentations, cultural and social visit, field trips, providing learning and networking opportunities for course participants and lecturers. The official language of the course is English.

The target group that the event addresses includes:
- Postgraduate students (Masters or PhD students) in the field of agricultural economics and policy, who are familiar with introductory levels of microeconomics.
- Young researchers with an educational background in economics, management, marketing or other social sciences disciplines applied to agriculture.
- Young professionals from governmental institutions (ministries, authorities and agencies), non-governmental organizations related to agriculture who need a refresher course in scientific working.
3rd International Summer School of Medical Law and Bioethics from July 5 to 11 – application deadline: 30 June
The Laboratory for the Research of Medical Law and Bioethics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) announces, in cooperation with ELSA Thessaloniki, the 3rd International Summer School of Medical Law and Bioethics on "Assisted Reproduction and Alternative Family Forms".
The Summer School will be conducted in English, by faculty members and doctoral students from AUTh and from other universities in Greece and abroad, as well as by specialised jurists and doctors.
The Summer School will take place between the 5th and the 11th of July 2018 in Thessaloniki. The lectures will be held in Conference rooms of Holiday INN (8 Monastiriou Str.). The tuition fees amount to EUR 100 for students of all levels and EUR 150 for jurists and health professionals for entries up to May 30st, 2018 and to EUR 130 and EUR 180 respectively for entries up to June 30th, 2018 (deadline). Linnaeus Summer Academy from July 16 to August 17 in Kalmar, Sweden – application deadline: 15 February
The LNU Summer Academy is held from July 16th to August 17th, 2018, at the Campus in Kalmar.
A variety of courses within a broad field are on offer, e.g. "Environmental Technology for Sustainable Development" as well as the general courses "English for academic studies", "Beginner’s Swedish, part 1 " and "Writing a scientific essay – genre and methods. A preparation for higher education".
LNU Summer Academy is open for all and can be done by itself. Still, it might be of particular interest for students who are coming for a half or full year in autumn/spring 2018/19. Those students will get a softer introduction to Sweden, a more relaxed start and will meet other students from different disciplines. And a Swedish summer (though this does not guarantee warm temperatures).

The International Bachelor Summer School for Climate Change Research invites Bachelor students (semester 4 to 6) from different disciplines to participate in the course which is being held under the umbrella of Climate Change Research. The Summer School focuses on the following topics:
- physical climate system
- climate economics and governance
- knowledge transfer
It comprises keynote lectures that are held by high-profile scientists; workshops to train and sharpen students’ disciplinary competence; and a simulation exercise of a multilateral climate conference that will be run by the students themselves. A field trip to the high altitude research station Jungfraujoch (3500 m a.s.l.) will provide insights into latest measurement technologies, as well as to the impacts of climate change.
