Winter School “Civil and Environmental Forensic Engineering School” from 19 to 23 February 2018 at Montegrotto Terme, Italy – application deadline: 31 December 2017

The Winter School will take place from 19 to 23 February 2018 at Hotel Terme Augustus in Montegrotto Terme (PD), Italy and is aimed at giving a broad introduction to the application of engineering to forensic problems. Emphasis will be given to case studies in civil and environmental sectors.

The program covers the following topics: Forensic science philosophy and principles; introduction to civil and environmental forensic engineering; crime scene processing sessions; forensic interpretation: how to interpret evidence correctly avoiding confirmation bias; methods of analysis in civil and environmental engineering; preparation of the technical report; presentation and discussion of case studies.

The program is primarily offered to grad and PhD students, young researchers, post-doc and research fellows; other candidatures (professionals) will be also considered.

The participation is limited to 40 persons only and the selection will be based on the CV.

Winter School in “Food and Health”

Dear Partner,
I would like to ask you to distribute this information about a Winter School in “Food and Health” among your students. I am sure that this is a very nice and unique possibility also for your students for coming to Italy:
The University of Padova (Italy) and the University of Sydney (Australia) have the pleasure to invite you to the
 "Food & Health" Winter School which will be held in Padova, Italy from January 29 to February 10, 2018.
Lectures will be provided by professors from the University of Padova and the University of Sydney, as well as by FAO and Italian Anti-Adulteration and Health Unit experts.

The Winter School program focuses on the most relevant aspects of food quality and human nutrition, in order to understand how they are related and how they affect human health, through dietary habits. The focus is on the interaction between food, nutrition, and human health, in order to bridge the gap between different disciplines.

In the historic framework of Bo Building (Padova) and Villa Revedin Bolasco (Treviso) the Winter School will combine lectures with field trips to wineries and food industries, and social activities, thus providing an ideal setting for learning and networking.

The Winter School is open to a maximum of 40 advanced undergraduate and graduate students (10 places reserved for 3rd/4th year undergraduate students from the University of Sydney, and 10 for master students from University of Padova).

Students will be selected based on a motivational letter and on CV.
Applications need to be sent to Mara Thiene  by November 22nd, 2017. Students will be awarded 6 credit points for participating.

Study abroad 2018 summer course from 2 to 26 July at the University of Almeria

Topic: “Geospatial information technologies in land planning and natural resources management”

Currently, the GIT (Geospatial Information Technologies) have become an irreplaceable tool for obtaining and analysing spatio-temporal and multi-scale information that constitutes a high added value for the improvement of decision-making in areas such as environmental management and integrated land planning. The disciplines included in this summer course, i.e. Physical Geography, Remote Sensing and Information and Territorial Planning, offer a set of tools and technologies very valuable for monitoring, at multiple scales and with great precision, the dynamics of what happens in our "Digital Earth".

International Bachelor Summer School for Climate Change Research from 6 to 17 August at the University of Bern, Switzerland - registration open

The International Bachelor Summer School for Climate Change Research invites Bachelor students (semester 4 to 6) from different disciplines to participate in the course which is being held under the umbrella of Climate Change Research. The Summer School focuses on the following topics:

  • physical climate system
  • climate economics and governance
  • knowledge transfer

It comprises keynote lectures that are held by high-profile scientists; workshops to train and sharpen students’ disciplinary competence; and a simulation exercise of a multilateral climate conference that will be run by the students themselves. A field trip to the high altitude research station  Jungfraujoch (3500 m a.s.l.) will provide insights into latest measurement technologies, as well as to the impacts of climate change. Students will have the opportunity to experience one of Switzerland’s most spectacular places: the Aletsch – the largest Alpine Glacier.

Summer School Agroecology: Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems from 14 June to 18 July 2018 in Lyon, France – application deadline: 15 April 2018

The academic program of the ISARA-Lyon International Summer School consists of lectures, case studies, field work, excursions (fish pond landscape, mixed crop livestock systems in mountains areas and conservation biological control in vegetal production), use of geographical information system, economics, agronomy and ecology, traditional food systems, local food supply chains, personal research study. Furthermore there will be a linguistic and cultural program. The 5-week course is for 9 ECTS; 6 for satisfying the scientific requirements and 3 for the linguistic/cultural studies.

Summer Academy at Linköping University, 29 June to 28 July 2018, Sweden, application from 1 February to 6 March 2018

The programme will give international students an opportunity to study in Linköping for four weeks, choose from a number of high-quality courses and gain cultural insights together with other students from our international partner universities. All courses are at bachelor's level, credit bearing (7.5 ECTS), will be taught in English and are full-time. For students from LiU's partner universities the LiU Summer Academy is tuition free. The LiU Summer Academy provides a new possibility for short term exchange within the framework of our existing exchange agreement.

VUA International summer school “Agrisummer in black soil regions of Russia”

The Kursk State Agricultural Academy and Belgorod State Agricultural University invite to participate in the VUA (Visegrad University Association) summer school “Agrisummer in black soil regions of Russia” from 30 July to 12 August 2018. Summer course : “French and Theatre” from Monday 2 July to Friday 20 July 2018

Advanced training courses, in connection with the Theatre Festival Avignon.
The course is opened on condition a minimum number of participants are enrolled.

Summer 2018 programme
Minimum level required : Elementary (A2). The course is not suitable for beginners.

French language and courses : 30 hours
Students are tested then placed into groups depending on their level.
Both oral and written skills are covered.
A range of communicative activities, connected with the Theatre Festival, are carried out (vox pops, interviews, creative writing ) as well as an introduction to the theatre plays planned in the cultural programme.

Theatre workshop: 15 hours
Voice and movement, improvisation, reading and acting.
The workshop will lead to a performance, which will conclude the course.

9th UGM DREaM International Students Summer Program "Resilient Society: a trans-disciplinary and cross-border approach", 13 - 26 of August, 2017

The program consists of public lecture, internship, action plan workshop, cultural events, and also community service that provides opportunity for participants to live with the locals and experience various activities in the village. Participants are expected to be encouraged to discuss and thus increase the awareness of the issue. Participants will get two credits from Universitas Gadjah Mada by joining this event.
