Educating the European Public for Biotechnology

Welcome to the EBE homepage

Funded by the European Commission Research Training Networks, Raising Public awareness program

Network Objectives

In the light of the present and future economic and social significance of biotechnology, together with current consumer attitudes, the sources of informative material available to the general public are of major importance. In this network 12 Member States, plus experts from Switzerland and USA, will explore, survey and evaluate educational measures aimed at the general public in the area of biotechnology.

The network will survey printed and broadcast sources (including the Internet), formal and informal educational programs, industry-specific publicity and the views of special interest groups.

A key aspect will be to assess to what extent Member States can learn from one another and whether/how prevailing public attitudes might be related to existing education practices and ease of access to information.
