The workshop is sponsored by the BM.W_F (The Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research) as part of the Austrian Network of Environmental Research (ÖNUF +2048 project).

About 40 renowned international scientists and representatives of major international organisations such as EC, UNO, Worldbank, EEA, WWF, transboundary river basin commissions (ICPDR) and governmental institutions will participate in the workshop. Participants are selected to balance among disciplines, participation by invitation only.

The workshop and accommodation costs are borne by the conference organizers. However, the costs of travel to and from Vienna will have to be borne by the participants themselves.
