Mellon Program in Urban Landscape Studies at Dumbarton Oaks

Garden and Landscape Studies at Dumbarton Oaks has received a major award from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to create a new interdisciplinary Program in Urban Landscape Studies. This grant is one of 15 made by the Mellon Foundation so far to major institutions of higher education and research, aimed at fostering the joint contributions that the humanities and the design and planning disciplines may make to understanding the processes and effects of burgeoning urbanization. In conjunction with this award, Dumbarton Oaks will appoint a Post-Doctoral Fellow to participate in developing and coordinating the activities of the Mellon Program in Urban Landscape Studies within the Garden and Landscape Studies Program. The Fellow will report directly to the Director of Dumbarton Oaks and will work closely with the Director of Garden and Landscape Studies. This position is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years. As a Fellow at Dumbarton Oaks, the incumbent will have access to the outstanding resources of the Research Library and become part of the larger community of scholars at Dumbarton Oaks. The expected start date is on or before 010915. Post-Doctoral Fellows are expected to live in the Washington, DC area for the duration of their term.
