BOKU researcher Emma Izquierdo-Verdiguier is one of the few globally selected experts in the "Earth Engine" category.

The "Google Earth Engine" (GEE) is a new category within the "Google Developer Experts Program", to which less than 40 selected experts* worldwide belong - including Emma Izquierdo-Verdiguier from the BOKU Institute of Geomatics since April 2022. As a free cloud platform, GEE is used for scientific analysis, processing and visualization of geodata sets for academic, non-profit, business and government users. Earth Engine combines a large catalog of satellite imagery and geospatial datasets with world-scale analysis capabilities and is considered a very useful tool for remote sensing and geographic information systems.

Emma Izquierdo-Verdiguier , a postdoctoral assistant at the Institute of Geomatics since September 2018, teaches Earth Engine technology at BOKU in the course "Advanced methods for remote sensing: machine learning and cloud computing". In her previous work, she developed machine learning algorithms for remote sensing data analysis, worked on photo interpretation and GIS data, and devised a spectral-spatial feature extraction method to automatically detect and classify growing tree plantations.
