SIVE Best PhD Viticulture Thesis Award for Dr Stefania Savoi

High-tec Tracing of Parameters for Wine Quality

The Italian Society of Viticulture and Oenology (SIVE) awarded Dr Stefania Savoi as best PhD thesis in the field of Viticulture for the year 2016. This year the prize was entitled in the memory of Prof Roberto Ferrarini. The ceremony took place on the 20th of December 2016 in Foiano della Chiana (Tuscany, Italy). The PhD work of Dr Savoi investigated the effect of drought events on the berry metabolism during fruit development and ripening in white and red grape varieties by using a multidisciplinary approach that considered a two-year field trial, high-throughput transcripts profiling (RNA-sequencing) and large-scale targeted metabolite analyses. Dr Savoi is currently working together with Dr. Michaela Griesser to study "Berry Shrivel" in Grapevine through RNA-sequencing in the Division of Viticulture and Pomology headed by Prof Astrid Forneck.
