Content

This class, held by visiting professor Prof. Nicola Pohl in January 2024, will explore the state-of-the-art in techniques to identify and analyse carbohydrates and evaluate the challenges that remain for the widespread adoption of these techniques among nonexperts.

Discussions will include the molecular basis for particular challenges in sugar as compared to nucleic acid and protein chemistry with an introduction to automation platforms for chemical synthesis and artificial intelligence/machine learning methods to evaluate chemical data.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Students are able to critically assess state-of-the-art techniques for
carbohydrate synthesis in batch and flow and for carbohydrate analysis
and identify challenges that remain in the development of automated
workflows to analyze and produce glycans.
