In the field of bioinformatics and genomics, scientific advancement is rapid. This seminar will focus on bioinformatics developments in the field of genome analysis. In each session one original research paper will be presented by a student (talk incl. slides). The students choose research papers under guidance of the course instructors. The paper presentation is followed by a discussion including all course participants. Students are expected to read each paper as preparation for the course sessions.
- Previous knowledge expected
Basic knowledge in bioinformatics and genomics. Scientific reading skills to be able to understand original research papers.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
Students will get familiar with current trends in bioinformatics and genomics exemplified by the presented papers. In addition to the knowledge gain, students get experience in reading research papers and preparing a presentation. They will acquire competences in distilling out the key messages from a scientific paper and to explain the paper content assisted by slides. Entering into discussions about the presented papers will foster the students' critical thinking. The students will receive feedback how to improve their presentations.
