Students will learn how to use Linux shell commands for file management, information extraction, and automated processing of files. They will learn how to track the computational load while running heavy jobs, locally and on remote machines. They will analyze data sets by applying various Linux command-line tools including sed and awk. They will learn how to quickly generate polished plots to visualize selected information using gnuplot and R. For more complex data analysis steps they will get some insight into the Perl programming language.

Basic knowledge in molecular biology. No previous Linux knowledge required.
