Designing and optimizing breeding programs, methodical approaches for modeling and evaluating breeding programs (deterministic, stochastic), gene-flow method, criteria to evaluate breeding programs, importance of functional traits in total merit index (TMI) in Austrian dairy cattle breeding programs.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Methodical deepening of the basic process of designing and optimizing breeding programs, which was shortly discussed in the subject Advanced Animal Breeding (Master Program Livestock Sciences). Demonstration of application of designing and optimizing breeding programs through modeling and evaluation of alternative breeding programs in cattle based on a practical example.
