Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Students:
• classify and differentiate between alpine farming and farming in mountainous areas
• describe land use, know the spectrum of species, evaluate
quality and output of resources, assess environmental influences
• know the fundamentals of crop farming, viniculture, fruit production,
grassland management, agricultural engineering in plant production, animal husbandry, agricultural construction and labor management
• discuss horticultural plant production (quality concerns, marketing, special forms and household gardens)
• know about cattle, pig and poultry husbandry (selected systems, “hot spots”)
• outline the principles of organic farming
• know legal regulations and principles
• estimate energy input, genetic engineering, nutritional efficiency
• describe soil fertility and plant nutrition
• design crop rotations
• think about resource conservation
• differentiate between integrated, conventional, organic and ecological plant protection
• give examples for harmful organisms and choose control measures
• are aware of future challenges of agricultural engineering
• differentiate between agricultural policy, rural sociology, agricultural economics and agricultural marketing and know about their objectives and instruments
