OUR RESEARCH TOPICS

 

Within the last decade research interests were focussed on the chemical synthesis of inner core and Lipid A structures of bacterial lipopolysaccharides as well as capsular polysaccharides and their conversion into artificial antigens.
Current research interests are devoted to the development of protective antibodies against gram-negative bacteria responsible for septic shock syndrome: Furthermore, inhibition of the biosynthetic pathway of the vitally essential core-region (inhibitors of Kdo transferases) may lead to novel antibiotics.

Structure elucidation of unknown compounds and mixtures as well as the confirmation of identity and purity of products or their intermediates is the main use of high resolution NMR in chemisty.
Our AVANCE(TM) DPX line NMR spectrometer is the configuration specifically tailored for these needs. It meets the highest standards e.g. in magnet homogeneity and instrumental stability to allow routine application of even the most advanced indirect detection, gradient and 2-D techniques with their extraordinary time savings.
Several projects with academic as well as industrial partners have been realized in the past and are still going on. In connection with these activities a long tradition in NMR spectroscopy exists inhouse.
