CDR | Centre for Development Research
Welcome to the Centre for Development Research, the bridge between development theory and action at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna.
The Centre for Development Research, in short "CDR", is a university unit with a multidisciplinary network of partner scientists. It has a mandate to conduct research and training in areas related to sustainable natural resource management. As an organisation with expertise in applied development research, the CDR develops and promotes development innovations that work for land users in resource poor contexts. The CDR works towards poverty reduction, food security, and well-being for the most vulnerable population. We collaborate with over twenty BOKU scientists and a wide range of partners in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Do an internship with the CDR! The Centre for Development Research seeks motivated interns with a genuine interest in applied development research in areas related to sustainable natural resource management. CDR offers a selected number of internship positions abroad, designed for BOKU graduate students; in exceptional cases, visiting students will be considered as well.
Do you pursue a doctoral degree at BOKU? The CDR now offers two new documents for doctoral students working in the context of applied development research. The CDR Doctoral Study Manual provides information on administrative issues that must be observed when pursing a doctoral degree at BOKU. It also provides informal advice to doctoral students, based on past experiences of both students and supervisors. The CDR Authorship Guidelines offers practical information and guidance when writing scientific papers.
BOKU receives Sustainability Award for launch of CDR. In a ceremony on 8 March 2010, the CDR was honoured with the Sustainability Award 2010. This award is granted by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research in connection with the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014). The CDR received the award in the category 'research'.
Learning beyond convention. Organic agriculture is one of the most exciting and timely areas of sustainable rural development. The International Training Course on Organic Agriculture employs an innovation systems perspective to organic agriculture, trains students in basic transition management, and engages in collaborative arrangements when co-learning with farmers. This year's course takes place in Uganda, 10th-31st of July.
The official launch of the centre took place on 14 October 2009. Presentations and photos are available for download on the launch page.
