Department
profile :
The
Department of Hydrobiology, Fisheries and Aquaculture (HFA)
is part of the Institute for Water Provision, Water Ecology,
and Waste Management of the University of Natural Resources
and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU).
The department covers an interdisciplinary team of scientists
from the ranges biology, ecology, geography, history, landscape
ecology & planning, and agricultural engineering.
The main focus of research and education is "Applied Running
Waters Ecology" with the working groups:

Following
main points of work and aims of research will represent from
the department of hydrobiology:
- Preservation
of aquatic biota:
Effects and impacts of man-made manipulations of aquatic
ecosystems and biota; e.g. minimum requirements for water
discharge, waterpulses, pollution, eutrophication, toxicity,
hydro power plants, inpoundments and damming.
Identification of natural running water sections and concepts
of river conservation
- Ecological
critiques of work plans, and construction design
Fish passes; structural improvement of river channels; ecological
inspection of constructing sites
- Environmental
impact assessments
- River-restoration,
rehabilitation and restructuring measurses
- Water
quality assessment and pollution studies
Consultation, standards, methodology
- Faunistic
surveys
