Welcome to the Centre for Development Research, the bridge between development theory and action at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna.


CDR activities in the field The Centre for Development Research, in short ‘CDR’, is a university unit with a multidisciplinary network of over twenty partner scientists. It conducts applied development research and training in areas related to sustainable natural resource management. The CDR works towards poverty reduction, food security, and well-being for the most vulnerable population.
We collaborate with a wide range of partners in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Innovation Fund CDR activities in the field The CDR Innovation Fund is an instrument to develop the capacity of rural communities to initiate, manage and sustain rural innovation. In essence, it is a funding pool that can be accessed by rural communities to carry out new initiatives and innovative approaches to existing challenges in natural resource management, income generation, food security and decision autonomy.

Do you pursue a doctoral degree at BOKU? The CDR now offers two new documents for doctoral students working in the context of applied development research. The CDR Doctoral Study Manual provides information on administrative issues that must be observed when pursing a doctoral degree at BOKU. It also provides informal advice to doctoral students, based on past experiences of both students and supervisors. The CDR Authorship Guidelines offers practical information and guidance when writing scientific papers.
